If You Live in the North, May I Suggest You Start Planning a Florida Vacation Now?

Nobody knows for sure what the weather will be like tomorrow, let alone 6 months from now. However, the Farmers' Almanac has been one of the country's most trusted sources for long term weather predictions for nearly 200 years. After successfully predicting last winter's brutality, the Farmers' Almanac is once again calling for an extremely "frigid" and "bitter" winter for all of the northern states (from the Great Plains to the East Coast). While the majority of the country is expected to be unusually cold, the Northern Plains and Great Lakes regions can expect some of the worst conditions. Luckily for those that live in those areas, Fort Myers remains nice and warm throughout the winter. Average daily high temperatures remain above 70 degrees throughout the winter, and everything from flights to accommodations to rental cars may be much more affordable if booked well in advance. Many furnished condos and homes can be rented for the entire winter season, but options become very limited if you wait until the last minute.

Southwest Florida is an Extremely Popular Place for CEOs to Live

Both Fort Myers and Naples are among the most popular places in the entire country for CEOs to call home. Florida is very attractive due to the lack of individual state income tax, and Fort Myers happens to be one of the most affordable housing markets on this list. CEOs' preference for Southwest Florida is not only a strong vote of confidence in local real estate but also a very positive contribution to the local labor pool - thereby attracting more employers to the area.

Seeking Happiness? Look No Further Than Naples (FL)!

Maybe it's the great weather. Maybe it's the incredible shopping. Maybe it's the world renowned beaches. Maybe it's the impressive rate of local job growth. Maybe it's a combination of those factors and many others as well. Whatever it is, Naples is a very happy place - happier than anywhere else in Florida, and all but 3 small metropolitan areas (Charlottesville, Rochester, and Lafayette) in the entire country! If you are unhappy where you are now, you may want to at least consider a move to Naples. You probably won't regret it.

If You Do NOT Like Snow, Florida Is A Great Place For You!

Ever wondered how the 50 states stack up to each other in terms of snowfall? All 50 states see snow, but Florida tends to see A LOT less of it than all of the others (though Hawaii is completely safe except for its highest mountain peaks).

See the snow rankings by state (maximum recorded snowfall) here!

Fellow Sunbelt Cities Also Doing Well

In my last post I talked about some of Southwest Florida's relatively unknown socioeconomic successes. Local officials have claimed that the Hertz relocation constitutes the biggest economic milestone in Lee County history. I am proud to say that other Sunbelt cities, making headlines for all the wrong reasons a few years ago (perhaps none as embarrassing as newly elected President Obama selecting our very own Lehigh Acres as his first official visit), are also making great comebacks!

Check out what's happening in Orlando and Phoenix these days

Greetings Everyone!

Welcome to my blog! My name is Ryan McNeill, and I am lucky enough to call Southwest Florida home. If you haven't heard of places like Fort Myers, Naples, Bonita Springs, Sanibel, or Marco Island, chances are you know somebody that has. I, like the vast majority of local residents and visitors to the area, was born and raised thousands of miles away (in Chicago), but relocated here to enjoy a much more active outdoor lifestyle - made possible by the balmy year round climate. Whether it's a leisurely round of miniature golf or a strenuous paddleboarding session in the Gulf of Mexico, there is always something fun to do!

I am writing this blog as a young real estate professional seeking to dispel the classic stereotypes plaguing our area and the state at large. Yes, I'll be the first admit that we remain a very popular choice for retirees, most of whom relocate from the Midwest or Northeast for obvious reasons. What you probably don't know is that over 10,000 students attend the local Florida Gulf Coast University. You may have first heard of FGCU during March Madness, when the 15th seeded basketball team upset #2 Georgetown to advance to the Sweet 16. Also, you may not have heard that Hertz - the global rental car company - is relocating its corporate headquarters to the area. Although the headquarters have yet to be built, hundreds of working professionals and young families are being relocated to Southwest Florida, and many more are expected to follow as new corporate jobs become available.

I don't want to bog down this blog with too much personal information, but I would like to let you know that I work with a team of highly knowledgeable local experts at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices in the heart of South Fort Myers, handling transactions throughout Southwest Florida. If you need help finding a realtor elsewhere in the state or even out of state, I may be able to refer you to a local professional in your area of interest. For additional information about me, please feel free to refer to my google plus profile. Thank you for your interest, and have a wonderful day!
